4.8    The answer of Imam al-Qurthubi:

Imam Muhammad Ibn Ahmad al-Qurthubi (d.1273 C.E), the great scholar of Islam in his  “Maqami Hamat al-Sulban wa Marati Rawqat al-Iman” has also drawn attention to the Christian concept that the divine nature of Jesus was unharmed by the Crucifixion (only the human was). He says that:

“Since only God not man can save man, it is necessary that God or Jesus Divine nature should suffer in order to atone for man’s sins.”[1]

The present writer’s comment on the statement of Imam al Qurthubi:

“If the original sin was naturally transposed to all the children of Adam (The Doctrine of the Original Sin), then Jesus’ humanity side was also sinful in nature. He was also like all people born through the medium of women (Mary). Thus, his humanity part only could not save mankind from the burden of sin!”
