1.9    Salvation is Through Faith and By Obeying God’s Law

For Jesus and the Nazarene Community, to achieve Salvation or Eternal life, one must have faith in Allah The Almighty and follow the Law of God (al-Shari‘ah) or by doing good works (‘Amal Salih). It is contrary that Salvation can be obtained only by faith, leaving aside the practical obedience to God’s Commandments or Laws. Jesus himself states that:

“You can receive eternal life if you keep the commandments.” (Matthew 19:17, NLT)

Jesus says in the book according to Matthew:

“So if you break the smallest commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s Law and teaches them will be great in the Kingdom of Heaven.” (5:19, NLT)

Jesus commitment to uphold the Law of Moses and the Prophets is again expressed in the book of Luke, where he said:

“It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail” (16:17, GI)
