6.8    The Word Created Everything

“He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exist that he didn’t make.”  (John 1:2-3, NLT)

Lewis Sperry Chafer, the author of “Systematic Theology” states:

“In His creation of material things, God called them into existence out of nothing… The self-determining will of God has caused the material universe, as stated in Romans 11:36, “For Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Him be glory forever.” In this scripture the creation of all things is predicted of God; but in Colossians 1:16-17, “Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see-kings, kingdoms, rulers and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him.”[1]

Muslim Answer:

If all things including humans were created through Jesus Christ, then Jesus would have not told the Pharisees:

“Haven't you read the Scriptures, Jesus replied. They record that from the beginning God made them male and female.”  (Matthew 19:4, NLT)

It is crystal clear from the text that God created the system of things, which include all of us humans by himself. And if we refer to the Scriptures, Jesus himself was created:

“The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works.” (Proverbs 8:22, NIV)

“He (Jesus) is... the firstborn over all creation.” (Colossian 1:15, NLT)

“Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father…”  (John 6:57, NIV)

Imam Ibn Hazm, the great Muslim scholar in “al-Fisol Fi al-Milal wa Al-Ahwa was Al-Nihal” comments:

“If Christ was God, as they say, then the world would have been directly and personally created by Him and it is thus impossible that he was used as an instrument by God when he called the world into existence. If this is so, Jesus is not the creator of the world, but a tool or agent in creation (although in Ibn Hazm’s view God was never in need of tools or agent).” [2]
