4.16 Dr Muzammil H. Siddiq answers The Pope:
“To the Pope the divine concept of Tauhid is a reduction of “Divine Revelation”. When Prophet Muhammad (peace and prayer be upon him) spoke about the Oneness of Allah to the pagan Arabs, the Quran tells us, they rebuked him saying: “Has he made the God’s all into one God? Truly this is amazing thing.” (Surah as Sod 38:05). But pure Monotheism (Tauhid khalis) is not a reduction, it is the most complete truth in its most clear form. This was the message of all prophets of God. This is the message that is found in the famous Shema of the Old Testament “Shema Yisroel! Adonoi elaheynu adonoi Achud” – Hear O Israel! The Lord our God, The Lord is One! (Deuteronomy 6:4). This was the message that was also given by Jesus (Mark 12:29). Prophet Muhammad emphasized the same message. The Pope considers the Doctrine of the Trinity as “richness”. If that is richness, then he could also describe 33 million gods and Incarnation in India as the richest… Islam has not set aside the true heritage of God… rather Islam has affirmed and reaffirmed the pure and authentic principles of the Biblical tradition. What a pity that the Pope, instead of trying to understand this truth, belittles it using derogatory epithets… “The Pope’s allegation that in Islam God is ultimately a God outside the world, a God who is only Majesty, never Emmanuel “God-with-us”, betrays again a deep misunderstanding of Islam and its true doctrine. It is strange that he made such a sweeping statement while recognizing that “some of the most beautiful names in human language are given to the God of the Quran”. The Quran does not merely give some of the most beautiful names of God. Its real purpose is to establish the most beautiful and meaningful relationship between human beings and Allah. Anyone who reads the Holy Quran with an open mind will see that the God of the Quran “is not just Majesty, but He is also … with the believers wherever they are.” (surah al Hadid 57:4-6)”[1] “How could the Pope say that in Islam Allah is never “God-with-us?” Perhaps he has not read the Quran…the witness of Allah (Ma’iyyah) is one of the important concepts of Islam. It is the foundation of our faith and our prayers. No one prays to a remote God. We pray to Allah who is near (Qarib). But in order to be near, God does not have to become a human being. If Muslims do not accept the concept of Incarnation, it does not mean that they do not accept the Divine proximity or closeness. The beauty of Islam is that it emphasizes all the great, loving and caring Divine qualities without compromising His Divinity and without putting Him down to the level of His creatures.”[2] [1] What is meant are His Knowledge, His Love and His Guidance and not His very essence (al-Dzat) itself.
